This morning the Shirley Police Department transitioned from an old 911 calling system to a new E911 system called Next Gen 911 which was provided by the Massachusetts State 911. The technology takes the GPS coordinates from a cell phone call and automatically maps it onto a screen where a communications dispatcher will see it and notify police, fire & EMS Services to the scene.
Future enhancements will include receiving cellphone photos and video, as well as text messages. This technology will better serve the citizens of Shirley.
